Machinery and related products testing

What is mechanical CE certification? What are the MD directive standards for mechanical CE certification? In June 2006, the European Union issued the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which will be enforced from December 30, 2009, replacing the old Directive 98/37/EC. The new directive has new requirements in terms of product scope, boundary division with other directives, market supervision, conformity assessment procedures, and basic health and requirements. Mechanical products exported to the European Union must apply for CE certification and affix CE markings in accordance with the requirements of the new directive 2006/42/EC.

The most commonly used A, B, and C standards for mechanical CE certified products are:

  • EN ISO 4413: Hydraulic systems - General requirements and safety specifications for hydraulic systems and components;

  • EN ISO 4414: Pneumatic systems - General requirements and safety specifications for hydraulic systems and components;

  • EN 1088: Safety of machinery - Interlocking devices installed on protective covers - General principles and selection methods for design;

  • EN 953: Safety of Machinery - General Requirements for the Design and Construction of Fixed and Mobile Protective Covers;

  • EN 60204-1: Safety of Machinery - Electrical Equipment of Machinery - Part 1: General Requirements.

  • Class C standard: EN 201: Plastic rubber machinery - Safety requirements for injection molding machines;

  • EN 415-1: Safety of packaging machinery - Part 1: Terminology and classification of packaging machinery and related equipment;

  • EN 415-5: Safety of packaging machinery - Part 5: Packaging machines;

  • EN 474-1: Earth moving machinery - Basic safety requirements;

  • EN 692: Machine tools - Safety of mechanical punches;

  • EN 693: Machine tools - Safety of hydraulic presses;

  • EN 860: Woodworking machinery - Single sided planing;

  • EN 869: Safety of Machinery - Metal Die Casting Machines;

  • EN 1493: Car Lifts;

  • EN 12417: Machine tools - Safety requirements for machining centers;

  • EN 12717: Safety of machine tools - Drilling machines;

Scope of mechanical CE certification:

  • Mechanical;

  • Interchangeable equipment;

  • Sexual components;

  • Lifting machinery accessories;

  • Chains, ropes, and wire mesh belts;

  • Removable mechanical transmission equipment;

  • Semi finished machinery;
